Lunette

Privacy policy

Last updated 1 October 2026.

The short version

Lunette uses your location to work out the Sun and Moon times where you are. The location stays on your device. The app has no network access, collects nothing and sends nothing.

Your location

Your system asks for your permission before Lunette may use your location; on Android, Lunette first explains why, then asks only for your approximate location. If you allow it, Lunette asks for your position when it starts or comes back to the screen, and every few hours while it runs — it never tracks you continuously or in the background — and rounds it to two decimal places, about a kilometre, before keeping it. That rounded position is used for one thing: calculating sunrise, sunset, twilight, golden hour, moonrise and moonset.

The name of your town, when the system can supply one, is shown in the app. On the Mac it is kept alongside the position; on iPhone, iPad and Android it is looked up again each time and not kept.

If you decline, or turn location off, Lunette uses the main city of your device's time zone instead. The Moon's phase is the same everywhere and needs no location at all.

Widgets: on the Mac, Lunette's widgets get the rounded position from the app through an App Group, a space on your Mac that only Lunette and its widgets can read. On iPhone and iPad the widgets ask the system for your location themselves, only if you have allowed Lunette, and round it the same way. On Android the widgets read the position the app has stored.

Where it goes

Nowhere. Lunette has no network access. On the Mac it has no network entitlement and on Android it does not ask for the Internet permission, so the system itself will not let it open a connection; the iPhone and iPad app contains no code that uses the network. There is no server, no analytics library, no crash reporter and no account.

What is stored, and where

Inside the app's own storage on your device: the rounded position (and on the Mac the place name) described above, and your display settings. Nothing else. Deleting the app removes it all. Like any app's data it is included in your own backups of the device, except on Android, where the position is left out of them.

Email

The Email the developer button opens a message in your own mail app with the app version, your system version, the kind of device and how Lunette found your location (for example "Location Services" or "time zone city") filled in. It does not include your position. Nothing is sent unless you send the message yourself.

Children

Lunette collects no personal information from anyone, of any age.

Changes

If this policy ever changes, the new version will appear on this page with a new date, and any change to what the app collects would also be described in the release notes.
