Lettrette
Privacy policy
Last updated 1 October 2026.
The short version
Lettrette collects no data. It never connects to the internet, so nothing you open can leave your device. There is no account, no tracking and no analytics.
Your messages stay on your device
Lettrette reads the files you open on your Mac, iPhone or iPad and shows them there. It never sends them anywhere, and it never loads remote images or other content a message points to on the internet.
Files you export (EML, PDF or attachments) are saved only where you choose.
On the Mac, the app carries Apple's "outgoing connections" permission only because the system's web engine, which draws message bodies, needs it to start. Lettrette blocks every web address a message points to, so nothing is ever fetched.
Share › Lettrette
On the Mac, when you use Share › Lettrette, the file is copied into a temporary folder shared only between Lettrette and its own Share extension (an App Group), so the app can open it. That folder is private to Lettrette and nothing in it leaves your Mac. iPhone and iPad have no Share extension: when you choose Lettrette in the share sheet, iOS hands the file to the app itself, and it stays on your device.
