Common questions

What can I type?

An amount and an operator, in either order: 12.50+ or +12.50 adds, 7.20− or −7.20 subtracts, ×3 and ÷4 multiply and divide the total, 3×4= is a chain as on a calculator. +15% adds 15 % of the total, 15% takes 15 % of it. +tax and −tax add or remove tax at the tape's rate; +7% tax uses another. s, t, gt and c add a subtotal, a total, a grand total and a new section. Text after the numbers is the comment, and a #word in it is the tag.

Why does 1 ÷ 3 × 3 show 1.00?

Results keep 34 significant digits, and the tape shows them rounded half up to the decimals you choose. With a currency, the tape uses its usual decimals, and the amounts that percentages and tax lines compute are rounded to them, as a receipt would be.

What is the difference between ◇, ✱ and ✱✱?

◇ (subtotal) and = show the running total. ✱ (total) shows it, adds it to the grand total and starts the next section at zero. ✱✱ shows the grand total of every section so far.

A line says “Division by zero”.

The line divided by zero, so the totals of that section can't be worked out; they show an error until the next total or new section. Edit or delete the line and everything comes back.

Where are my tapes on iPhone, iPad and Android?

On iPhone and iPad, they are in the Files app, under On My iPhone (or iPad) › Tallette, one file per tape, saved as you go; the ⋯ menu saves a tape to Files as text, CSV or PDF, and imports a CSV or text file of numbers. On Android, they are kept inside the app, also saved as you go; Export saves a tape as text, CSV, PDF or a Tallette file wherever you choose, and Import brings in a CSV or text file of numbers.

Can Tallette convert currencies?

No. A currency is only a symbol and its usual decimals beside the totals: converting would need exchange rates from the internet, and Tallette never goes online.
