Common questions
Which files can I use?
MP3, M4A, M4B, AAC, FLAC, WAV, AIFF and CAF, and Opus or Ogg Vorbis where your system can decode them (recent macOS and iOS versions, and Android). On Android, CAF files can't be read: convert them to M4A or WAV first. Protected (DRM) files can't be read.
What is passthrough?
When every file is AAC with the same settings (the same sample rate and channels), Bindette copies the audio into the book without decoding it: no quality is lost and even a long book takes seconds. Otherwise the book is encoded as AAC at the bitrate, channels and sample rate you choose. Choose Always Encode to encode anyway.
My files are in the wrong order.
Drag them into place in the Files list, or sort them by name, by disc and track number, or by date. Chapters move with their files.
Can I split one long file into chapters?
Yes. Use Split by Silence: the waveform shows the pauses, and you set how quiet and how long a pause must be and the shortest chapter. You can also split a chapter at a time you type, or import a chapter list (a “00:00:00 Title” line per chapter, or a CUE sheet).
Where is my book on iPhone, iPad and Android?
In the Files app, under On My iPhone (or iPad) › Bindette › Books. The share button next to a finished book sends it to Books, to another player or to any folder in Files. On Android, Bindette asks where to save each book when you make it.
A book doesn't play or shows no chapters.
Bindette checks every book after writing it and says if anything is wrong. Please tell us which player you use and what kind of files went in; don't send audio you don't own.
